Planning

Planning your academic program is really about getting the most out of your education and making an investment in your future. Your academic advisor is a consultant who can help you.

Choosing a major defines your academic program and should reflect your interests, skills, and goals. But it is also important to choose general education and elective courses that enrich your educational program.

At Metropolitan State, you may decide to plan an individualized program truly tailored to your goals, rather than picking an established major.

When you have a plan, you can do more than just check off the requirements for your major. You can take ownership for your degree program, accelerate your program when possible, and have a strategy to get the most out of your education.

Planning your program to meet your goals is your responsibility. The overall structure of your program will be defined by the following degree components: overall credit requirements, general education requirements, a major, and possibly a minor.

The assessments will help you plan where to start. Many of you bring transfer credits that contribute to your program and various tools are available to help you track your progress towards completing requirements. In the upcoming modules, you will learn more about each of these topics. At the end of each module, please "Test your Knowledge" and then move on to the next module.

Whether you have already chosen the major you plan to pursue, or you are exploring your options, there are people and resources to help you plan the program that is right for you.
